In Diablo 3, there are going to be staple items which people find essential to their gaming experience on a frequent basis. A staple item is one which players sell and buy constantly on a day to day basis. Trouble is, no one really knows yet what those are, but there is plenty of room for speculation! Making Lots of Diablo 3 Gold with Scroll of Reforging
We know that certain items, like materials for crafting, will change drastically in value as players finish off leveling their artisans. However, we also know that those same crafting materials will be used to create gear, so we have no way of knowing where the supply and demand for materials versus crafted gear will end up over time. Since there are so many different materials and gear, I can only say that the category as a whole will do well, but not that any one material or gear itself will be in demand constantly. Without frequent demand, an item cannot be considered to be a staple.
A staple item is something players NEED, absolutely NEED to progress in the game. Correction, players must feel that they need the item, and trade it consistently, whether it actually is necessary or not.
At first glance, the Scroll of Reforging (and its various iterations) looks to be an unnecessary item. However, with how random the crafting game is going to be, these scrolls should prove absolutely essential. Any time you forge something and end up with stats that aren't very valuable, you will want to use a scroll of reforging to get a second chance. I equate this to selling lottery tickets, sort of like Mysterious Fortune cards in World of Warcraft. However, this time around, players get to use these scrolls to do a lot more than just make Diablo 3 gold, like enhancing their own personal gear.
Have you played a lot of video games, but never tried hands at Diablo 3? There's definitely a huge market for these scrolls, and I predict that they will be something all players want and use on a daily basis. As a bonus, Blizzard is making many different Scrolls of Reforging that each cover a different range of gear levels that they will work on. This means that they should all take different materials to create, which has the added bonus of opening up additional markets for us auctioneers to exploit.
